McKinsey interview or not?
I have been selected for interview by McKinsey, on the basis of School's intranet CV.I should be proud, that after so many years of atypical experience, I still have some value...
Now should I go for the interview? It's next week, I'm not going to Consulting after INSEAD that's for sure, I haven't prepared anything...
Maybe, just for the sake of saying "I've been to a McKinsey interview"...

Don't do it Domo. I've seen this before...there is some hypnotic power of the consulting industry. Let's say you crack the case, then you are blinded by thoughts of money and McK status. I desparately need to hold on to an entreprenurial role model from the program!
RH
Hey RH.
Hum, thanks for reminding me of my commitments buddy... I'll think very hard about it. Seriously, I know what I'm good at, and it's not Strategy Consulting.
Prepare well for Singapore, in Entrepreneurship, and reach me out during or after INSEAD for a venture ok?
It's something about consulting... The reason you are even considering going there must be that you think it's "impressive" (or any other appropriate adjective). So, you've bought the myth, haven't you?
It's like Viagara - if you can't do it yourself - hire a consultant and you'll make it...
(But I know. I've been there. Not with Viagra, but with McK interview. Happily I didn't like it and they didn't like it.)
I'm not sure about this. For one thing, I know 200% that I'm not for this kind of jobs, and I have a job already that is on par with McK in every level but the contents. It's just, McK is supposed to be the toughest interviews ever, so I'd love to say: I've been there... Is it too vain?
Is it too vain? Yes.
Yeah maybe... I'll think about it. Or maybe it's the challenge... In any case don't worry, there's no way I'm going to be taken, or to take it.
It's very easy to get caught up in the flow of things. "Everyone" is applying, so you figure there might be something to it.
Besides, if you figure in the opportunity cost, then it's a no-brainer.
Let's say that you pass the interviews and eventually get an offer - that just gives you more alternatives.
And having alternatives, as we know, is a good thing.
The downside is of course the remote chance that they ding you. Dings are never good for ones self esteem.
Thanks Hallonman or your comment. Probably right about options, even though my point is, getting McKinsey will not significantly increase my alternatives... But I really believe they are close to the best in interview parctice, and as someone told me, if you don't do it to get the job, at least do it to learn about how to interview candidates...
